A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) permitting you to hire a foreign worker. It is the employer’s responsibility to apply for, and receive, a positive LMIA prior to hiring a foreign worker.

Completing the LMIA takes time. A job must be posted in Canada for at least for weeks, and you must demonstrate that you were not able to hire a Canadian for the position. Foreign workers can only receive a work permit once you have received a positive LMIA, so it is very important that you start the process well ahead of the intended start date of the employee.
There are strict requirements that must be met both before receiving a positive LMIA and once the foreign worker is employed and working with you.
At Kaminker & Associates, we’ve helped companies receive positive LMIAs for a wide variety of positions and jobs. Our team works directly with you to ensure your application is accurate, complete, and meets all of the requirements from the ESDC, and we will help ensure compliance once the employee is hired.
In some cases, you may be exempt from requiring an LMIA. We can help you identify exemptions so that you are taking the best path to bringing in a foreign worker for your unique business and circumstances.
