Every year Canada accepts refugees who are forced to leave their home country, cannot return, and are seeking protection. Canada has specific requirements to be eligible to resettle under the Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program or In-Canada Asylum Program.
You cannot directly apply as a refugee, and must be referred by either the United Nations Refugee Agency, a designated referral organization, or private sponsorship group. There are many different paths to being sponsored depending on your unique situation. You may seek asylum if you are already in Canada and meet certain requirements.
